HON. JOHN ORUENJO UMIDHA

It is with deep sorrow that the family of the late Hon. John Oruenjo Umidha announces his passing on September 12, 2024.

Mzee John was a distinguished leader, having served as Chairperson of the ODM branch in Alego Usonga, Siaya County, and was the first Chairperson of Siaya Town Council, as well as Mayor of Siaya Municipality.

He was the beloved husband of Mama Rosebella Wanyang Oruenjo, the late Mama Anastasia Adongo Oruenjo, Mama Anne Juma Oruenjo, Mama Gladys Achieng’ Oruenjo,  and Mama Betty Akoth Oruenjo. He was the son of the late Mzee Zablon Umidha Awuor and the late Mama Trufosa Nyasamo Umidha of Olwa Sub-location.

Mzee John was a devoted father of the late Charles Owuor, Edwin Omollo, the late Raphael Ochieng, Dr. Kennedy Odhiambo, the late Evans Umidha, Fredrick Oduor, the  late Washington Otieno, Kevin Ochieng, Erick Omondi, Allan Otieno, Brian Onyango, Steve Otieno, George Odhiambo, Loyd Umidha, and Malcom Griphin.

He also leaves behind his daughters: Lucy Awino, the late Beatrice Atieno, Nancy Awino, Eunice Adhiambo, Lilian Awino, Dorothy Atieno, Ruth Achieng, Judith Akinyi, the late Mercy Anyango, Truphena Nyaoro, Mourine Auma, Jackline Apiyo, Linet Atieno, Irene Adhiambo, Lavine Akinyi, Rachael Akinyi, Kettline Akinyi, Euphemia Nyasamo, and Phoezia Zureal.

He was a proud grandfather of many, including David, Martin, Brenda, Esther, Dennis, Mitchel, Marcella, Immaculate, Natali, Josephine, Benedict, Mary, Gregory, Raphael, John, Brian, Randy, Aimme Zingavi, John Israel, Mellisa, Jabali, Anastacia, Eiza, Annie, Evan, Kaia, Jasmin, Amalia, Flora, Atot,Tabby, Glen, Ryan, Kelsy, Terry, Mirale, Stacy, Joy Prita, Peace, Patience, Mary Blessing, Cetrick, Trevor, Tianna, Analia, Talia, Pope, Hawi, Jawara,Yvette, Nelvin, Joy, Emmanuel, Casten, Gabby, Mike, and Leroy.

He was also a great-grandfather of Linkon Josiah, Ethan Ngesa, Love Kamira, Hope Shania, Euqrine Shalom, and Anastasia.

Mzee John is survived by many relatives, including his brothers George Odhiambo Umidha, Ogayi Akello Umidha, Awuor Sanda Otieno, and Stephen Ong’ado Umidha, and sisters the late Nyanga Umidha, Margaret Apiyo Umidha, and Mary Umidha Anyango.

The cortege will leave Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu, on Friday, September 27, 2024.

The funeral service and burial will take place on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at his home in Oriang’ Nyachwinya, Siaya Township Ward, Siaya County.
