MADAM MARY GORETTY AKINYI MUTA
1956 – 2nd October 2020
It’s with deep sorrow that we announce the passing to glory of the late Madam Mary Goretty Akinyi Muta on 2nd October 2020 which occurred after a short illness.
Mary was daughter to the late Mzee Maurice Mbai Obonyo and Mama Catherine Atieno Mbai of Kanyachiri Amoso Village; Kowili sub-Location, Central Kochia Location, Rangwe Sub-County, Homa-Bay County. She was sister to The Late Dr. Chrispine Odhiambo Mbai, Donald Odiwuor Mbai, RTD. Col. Raymond Odoyo Mbai (K.D.F), Gerald Ochieng Mbai (Rongo University), Dr. Francis Onyango Mbai and Beatrice Atieno Obonyo (East African Community & Regional Development). She was stepsister to Asalmus Jomo, Kennedy Mbai, Mary Akinyi (World Food Programme), Seline Ayoo, the Late Omondi Mbai, Clement Otieno Mbai (K.D.F) Martin Mbai, Judith, Irene, Late Joan, George Ochieng, Chrisantus and Emilly. She was daughter-in-law Akinyi Muta to Mr. and Mrs Shem Odero.
She was the wife to Mwalimu Silas Muta Odero, mother to the late Calvine Onyango, Brenda Achieng, Holicent Amondi, Judith Akoth, Shem Odero, Victor Mbai, Mike Odiwuor and Teddy Omondi. Grandmother to eleven grandchildren namely; Frank, Charity, Marvelin, Ronald, Godfrey, Whitney, Silas, Christine, Calvince, Mitchell and Angel. Mother in law to Winnie and Moraa, Sargent Tom Ogalo, Eng George MK Dhano and John Okoth.
She was niece to the late Mzee Casmir and mama Consolata Pacho Odumbe Obonyo, the late John Oyugi Obonyo, the late Omanya Obonyo, the late Anayo Obonyo, the late Awuor Obonyo, the late Mageto Obonyo, the late Omingo Obonyo and Chrispine Aseto Obonyo. She was also niece to the late Sulmena Akelo, the Benedetta Jaleny, the late Ngare Aye and Anna Orinda Dolla. Cousin to the late Isabella Oduogi, Fiti, Carilus Odero Odumbe, Thamasis Jaramba, Mary, Theresa Odera, Sixtus, Onesmus, Lucy, and Elizabeth among others.
She not only was active in the church but participated in its missionary, evangelism and leadership programmes. Indeed, at the time of her demise, she was an ordained Lay Reader serving Otaro parish of the Anglican Church of Kenya.
Her body will be laid to rest at her family home on Tuesday, October 20th, 2020 in Otaro, East anyada, Homa Bay County after service by St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Otaro.
Fare thee well our mentor, our pillar, our teacher, our counselor, our friend, our mother. To you, we jointly say…Rest in peace nyar gi Aron.
