DR. DAVID OTIENO AWANGE

It is with humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing on of Dr. David Otieno Awange. The late Dr Awange was an Oral Pathologist at the School of dental of University of Nairobi.

He was husband to the late Margaret Otieno and father to Ishmael, Diddy, Rosslyn, Beldina Achieng (Kenyatta University), Mercelyne Aluoch (University of Nairobi) and Jessica Awange.

The late David Awange headed the Division of Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine at the University of Nairobi for over 30 years. During his career life, the late doctor published extensively and mentored hundreds of junior colleagues in this specialty. His work ethic was flavoured by his humanity and compassion. His professional and academic impact in dentistry in general and specifically in the field of Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine will be felt for years to come. The many young dentists that the late Awange mentored attribute their rise in the profession to this humble giant. The late Dr. David Awange was a great humanitarian. It was his norm to assist patients who needed medical services free of charge. He was loved and admired by the entire University Nairobi community throughout his years of service.The late Dr Awange was dedicted to duty and service. He worked with humility and great distinction until his untimely demise.

The cortege leaves Chiromo Funeral Parlour tomorrow, Friday 31st July 2020 at 6.00 a.m. to the late Dr Awange’s rural home in Siaya. Thereafter, the late Dr David Awange will be laid to rest at the family home in Agulu Village, Siaya County.

Dr. Awange will be greatly missed by the University of Nairobi community, which has lost not only a great scientist, but also a mentor and a friend.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
