DR. (MRS.) MUTHONI GITATA

28th February, 1946 ~ 16th September, 2024

The family of Dr Muthoni Gitata with humble acceptance announce her transition to Glory. She was the beloved wife of the late Hezekiah Gitata.

Daughter of the late Keziah Wangeci Githungo. She was Daughter-in-law of the late Beth Wanjiku & the late Rev. Nahshon Njuguna Mbothu (AIC Kijabe Mission).

Daktari was the beloved mother of Elizabeth Wanjiku & Nelson Harris III (USA); Suzzanne Wangeci & Kiriga Kunyiha; Kaarini Wangari & Tyrese Lewis (USA); Ian Gitata & Esther Wanjiru (Lusona).

She was the treasured sister of the late Mary Wangari, the late John Ndungu & Mary Wanjiru, Rose Njoki & the late James Maina, the late Eunice Wathira, Elizabeth Wambui & Peter Kamau, Joyce Wangui & Rufus Chege and Agnes Wanjiru & Davis Kuria.

A sister and aunt to many in the wider Githungo Family.

Sister-in-law of Leah Wambui & the late Mwalimu Chege and Damaris Wangui. She was a muiiru and sister-in-law of the wider Mbothu Family.

A loving mother who always opened her home and heart especially to women and children, she was mother to many and raised Sammy Njogu (UK), Samuel Gatukui (USA), Solomon Mungai (UK), Ruth Nyamweru (UK) and Zipporah Murugi (UK). She was a much loved aunt to so many.

She was a precious Cucu of Ivana Jahya Muthoni, Ariel Wangeci Simone & Nelson Joseph Gitata Harris IV;Wanjiru Miyaanda Kiriga; Robert Gitata & Aiden Njuguna Lewis; Gitata, Njenga & Aric Njuguna.

A pioneer in the dental field as the first female oral surgeon and dentist of African descent in Kenya, she was a patriot who served and loved her nation.

Many remember her as their family dentist and she mentored and inspired so many in the field.

She will be laid to rest on Tuesday 24 th September, 2024 at her home in H. Gitata Farm “shooting range” in Kiambu at 10.00am.
