Francis Ayub Mahinda Thinwa (“Hancocks”)

1st January 1935 to 13th May 2020

We humbly surrender to God’s will and announce the passing of Francis Ayub Mahinda Thinwa, which occurred on Wednesday 13th May 2020 at Karen Hospital Nairobi at 2:15 am.

Francis was born in Gaikuyu, Magutu Sub Location, Nyeri County in a large family and was the son of the late Ayub Thinwa and the late Waceke Wangu Ayub. Husband of Anne Wanjiru Mahinda and Father of Gerald Kanyi Mahinda (KELLOGGS), the late Gregory Gathara Mahinda, Charles Wachira Mahinda (Ministry of Agriculture) and Jayne Wangu Mahinda (UNICEF Somalia). Father-in-law of Caroline Gathoni and Clara Wanjiru, grandfather of Cyndy, Mark, Melissa, Thinwa, Marcel and Ciru and great grandfather of Roimen. He was a member of the Kanyi Family as a son-in-law, brother-in-law, Uncle and God Father. He was a gentle soul, loving and caring husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, son-in-law, brother-in-law, Uncle, God Father and a great friend of many that knew him.

To his children, he was unassuming, a mentor and trail blazer having been trained at the International Training Centre for Aerial Survey in the Delft, Netherlands, as an ITC Photogrammetric Engineer in the late sixties. Thereafter, he worked at the Survey of Kenya and the Ministry of Transport for many years before retiring to farming.

The funeral will take place on Saturday 16th May 2020 at his Farm in Kianjogu, Nyeri County. The cortege leaves Montezuma and Monalisa Funeral Home on Saturday at 6.30 am for the funeral service and burial at the Kianjogu Farm.
