HON. PATRICK SAKWA NYENDWE (MAYOR)

1948 ~ 2024

It is with profound sadness and acceptance of God’s will, that we announce the untimely demise of Hon. Patrick Sakwa Nyendwe of Mumias, Kakamega County that occurred on 26th September, 2024 in the morning while undergoing treatment at Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu.

The late is a former Councilor and the First Mayor of the defunct Mumias Municipal Council.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, exceptional leader and friend, whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew him.

Born to the late Michael Nyendwe Opari and the late Clesensia Wesonga, the late Hon. Patrick Sakwa Nyendwe lived a life filled with love, care, devotion and selflessness.

He was the husband of the late Mama Esther Sakwa Otinga and the late Mary Kwena.

He was a loving father of Hon. Michael Osundwa Sakwa (Osundwa & Company Advocates), Victoria Ann Sakwa, Winfred Mukabana, David Wesonga Sakwa and Godfrey Oliaro Sakwa.

He was brother of Gabriel Netia, the late Gabriel Wanga, Joseph Okwaro, Peter Shiundu, Margaret Nyarotso, Zainabu Murono, the late Joseph Opondo, Martin Oloo (Oloo and Oloo Advocates) and Moses Shikuku.

He was brother-in-law of the late Phyllis Odongo, the late Jessica Wanga, Penina Odunga, Eunice Nyangule, Dina Were, Fridah Okoki, the late Gladys Netia and Penina Oloo. He was a cousin of the Oliaro’s family, the Shikuku’s family, the Oloo’s family, the Ongote’s family and the Teeba’s family among others.

He was a cherished uncle to many including; John Shiundu, Patrick Lutta (Lutta & Company Advocates), Lilian Okumu, Jullie Okinyo, Jullie Okoki, Joseph Akwala, Frank Shiundu, the late Fred Okumu, Peter Opondo,Victor Rapando (Rapando & Odunga Advocates), Samora Netia, Steve Oloo, Chris Opondo, Layla Oloo (E. Oloo and Co. Advocates), Alex Nyendwe, Justus Wanga, Michael Kadima and Alex Wanga who will miss his warmth and guidance. He was a father-in-law of

Mitchell Osundwa, Fred Shikuku, Angeline Nambaka, Caroline Shiundu, Michael Alem, Charles Wesutsa and Beth Mushi.

The legacy of the late Hon. Patrick Sakwa Nyendwe lives on through his grandchildren, among them; Fiona, Natalie, Laura, Ivy, Abdul,Estherbell, Makena, Patrick, Florence, Ann, Mukila, Otinga (Beautiful Esther), Laura, Eugene, Mary, Faith, Rodger, Derric, Sabina, Ethan, Gladys and Eymer.

The cortege will depart from the Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu on Friday, 11th October, 2024 for a requiem mass at St. Peters Catholic Church in Mumias in the afternoon.

Thereafter, the cortege shall leave for a short stay at his home in Shibale before proceeding to his rural home in Imanga for an overnight stay.

A final funeral service shall be held at Eshiyanza Primary School on Saturday 12th October, 2024 as from 9.00 am followed by burial ceremony at his rural home in Imanga, Mumias West Constituency, Kakamega County.

As we bid farewell to Mayor, let us remember his selfless leadership, unwavering love for his family and the countless lives he touched.

He will be profoundly missed but remembered forever
