HONOURABLE MAINA WANJIGI EGH

Join us in celebrating the life of Hon. Maina Wanjigi, who rested on 28th June, 2024 at the Nairobi Hospital.

Born on 7th October 1931, in Wahundura Village, Murang’a County, He was a alumnus of Alliance High School, Makerere University and Stanford University.

Maina Wanjigi served as a Member of Parliament for Kamukunji for 25 years and held multiple ministerial positions including Tourism and Wildlife, Public Works and Housing, Cooperative Development and Agriculture and livestock.

He served as the first african deputy Director Agriculture, the first african Director os settlement, the first director of ICDC, the first African Chairman of the Agriculture society of Kenya (ASK) and Chairman of Kenya Airways.

He is the developer and pioneer of Gikomba market among others.

Maina Wanjigi was the son of Wanjigi wa Mucugia and Mariamu Wangeci.

He was the beloved husband to Mary Wambui Wanjigi for 66 years.

He was the loving father of Dr’s. Martin and Josephine Awori, Jimi and Irene Wanjigi, Justice Gatembu and Dr. Gathoni Gatembu, Sani and Sophia Mbui- Wanjigi.

A devoted grandfather of Kevin and Maria Ruoro, Kesa and Susan Awori, Maina and Wambui Wanjigi, Wanjiru and Kairu Gatembu, Muthandi and Maina Mbui- Wanjigi and a blessed great-grandfather of Josephine Wanjiku Ruoro.

Maina Wanjigi was a distinguished leader, statesman, philanthropist and innovator who made profound contributions to Kenya and beyond.

He was the pioneer and patron of SOS children’s village (Kenya).

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday 3rd July 2024 at 12pm at All Saints Cathedral.

The burial service will be held on Friday 5th July 2024 at 10am at Kianjoya Estate, Nyeri County
