KIMANI SOLOMON MWANGI
It is with great sadness that the family of Kimani Solomon Mwangi announces his sudden passing on Wednesday, June 2nd 2021, at the age of 71 years.
He was married to Loise Waithera. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Wangari, Mwangi, Githinji and Timothy. He will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Nelion, Waithera and Kimani, among many. He is the son of the late David Mwangi and late Rachel Waithera of Cherangani, Kitale. He is the brother to Keziah, Joseph, Dorcas, Naomi, Esther, late Samuel, late Gashon and late George and brother-in-law to Mabwa and Wallace. He was the doting uncle “Solo” to many nieces and nephews.
He qualified as a teacher in 1972 and briefly taught at Moi Girls Eldoret and Iten Secondary School before being seconded to the Outward Bound Mountain School in Loitokitok, where he was the Warden from 1982 to 1991. In 1991 he was seconded to the Office of the President to establish Mt. Kenya School of Adventure as the Founding Warden and Programme Director.
He loved spending time outdoors, travelling and climbing mountains around the world. In 1986 he was a member of the Kenyan team that climbed the Himalayas with the late Hon. Kenneth Matiba. He retired from Mt Kenya School of Adventure in 2002 to his farm in Loitokitok where he continued his adventures in farming and serving his community.
Friends and relatives are meeting daily at his home between 3 pm and 6 pm.
He will be laid to rest on Wednesday, June 9th, at his farm in Oloitokitok, Kajiado County.
