It is with profound sadness and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing away of our beloved Benson Nyang’iye Derio, which occurred on 27th December 2022 at Kendu Adventist Hospital.

Husband to the late Magdalene Awiti of Nyakach Kabodho, Dorca Atieno of Kano Kobura, Margaret Odiwa of Kagan and Mary Adhiambo of Kabondo Otondo.

Brother to the late: Maji, Paskalia Ogweno, Osewe and Margaret Onyango among others.

Cousin to Nyandiko Ongadi, Omita Abok, Agira Mundhe, Joram Achieng, the late: Pastor Osumba Abok, Ojiero Malit, Elijah Obonyo and Mathews Ouma Achieng among others.

Brother-in-law to Yukabeth Awino, the late Herenia Awino, Jeniffer Nyandiko and Penina Aguko Opiyo among others.

Father to John Nyang’iye, the late Julia Aoko, Joyce Oluoch, the late Rael Anyango, James Nyang’iye, the late Phelesia Akinyi, Felista Ayoo, Dr. Samson Nyang’iye, William Nyang’iye, Jane Achieng, Damar Awuor, Margaret Awiti, Peter Nyang’iye, Judith Adhiambo, Charles Awino X 2, Moses Nyang’iye, Caroline Atieno, Roselyne Adoyo, Phoebe Akoth, David Nyang’iye, Ayub Nyang’iye, Joseph Nyang’iye, Eric Nyang’iye, Lilian Anyango, Florence Akoth and Isaac Nyang’iye.

Grandfather to Goldermeir Opiyo, Benedict Opiyo, Joab Opiyo, Hirgans Oloo, Felix Ogweno, Cynthia Akumu, Frazer Okeyo, Dr. Lorraine Ekisa, Samuel Ayoma among many other grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Family and friends are meeting daily for prayers and funeral arrangements at his home in Nyahera Gendia, upper Kakwajuok, Karachuonyo Constituency, Homa Bay County.

A major fundraising is scheduled to be held at Mzee’s homestead on Wednesday, 11th January 2023 to defray medical bills and funeral expenses. All are welcome.

The cortege leaves Kendu Adventist Hospital Mortuary on Sunday, 15th January 2023, for an overnight stay at home before his burial on Monday, 16th January 2023.
