MZEE WILLINGSTONE NYANGATE TONGI

1925 – 2020

It is with humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing on of Mzee Willingstone Nyangate Tongi who passed away on 19/10/2020.

Son of the late Mzee Nyang’ate Nyambane Mogere and the late Mama Kerubo Ntimo Nyangate. He was a step-son of the late Masagege Nyangate. Husband of Mama Esther Kemunto Tongi. Brother of Orora Nyang’ate, Ntangina, John Getoto, Ndubi Nyangate, Mbeche Nyang’ate, Okeno Nyang’ate, Mongina Mogere Nyangate (all late). Step brother of the late Omariba, the late Osebe, James Atemba, the late Mokeira, the late Bogita, the late Nyamwaya, Kwamboka and Nyabira. Father of Peter Okeno (KDF), Annah, the late Caren, the late Josephine, Jared Omwoyo (USA), the late Man’garo, Hon. Richard Nyagaka Tongi (MP Nyaribari Chache), NyangateTongi (KPLC Kisumu), Gillian (NCA Kisil) and Sir Vincent Nyalcho Tongs (USA).

He was father-in-law of Jane Okeno, Erica Omwoyo (USA), Stella Nyagaka (MDH), Hyline Nyangate (LBDA), Susan Nyaicho (USA), the late Misi Korombani, Peter Maera and Dancan Nyandusi. Grandfather of Dominic (Kisii Polytechnic) and Catherine (Registrar of Births), Nancy (KPL) and Mathew, Philip Maera (Parliament), Risper and Jeremiah (Qatar), Judy, Dorica (prisons) and Dennis (Qatar), Rose and John, Job, Anita, Dr Edwin Omwoyo, Elijah (USA), Jeremiah (USA), Keith Tongi (UON), Riste (Marist International), Trendys and Neswil, Sandra, Nicole, Handel, Spence, Beatrice (Kereri Girls) and Cosmas, Judy and Harrison, Josphat (Prisons), Fred, Judy, Wycliffe (Prisons) and Trizah, Austin, Aldan (USA), Scarlet (USA) and Sydney (USA) among others. He was blessed with several great grandchildren.

Son-In-law of Makori Mecheo, Nyaera Makori, Kerubo, Biage and Sarange. In-law of Oiruri Makori, Matoke, the late ClIr Onsare, Christopher, the late Ntabo, Mangaro, Keiga and Fred Makori among others. Korera of the late Maeta and Kemunto, the late Obwoge and Kwamboka, the late Nelson Ongwae and Mama Gesare Ongwae, the late Nyanchama Ongwae, the late Bange, the late Nyakoni and BIllia, the late Maera, the late Billie and Katherine Glover of USA.

A Nairobi meeting of family, relatives and friends will be held on Wednesday 28th October 2020 at the Old Sanctuary of Nairobi Maxwell Central SDA Church starting 5pm. Kisumu meeting will be on 29/10/2020 at Palmers Hotel starting at 4pm.

His cortege leaves the Aga Khan Mortuary, Kisumu for Kisii on Sunday, with a final farewell service and ceremony taking place at Amariba Village, Nyaribari Chache, Kisii County on Monday 02/11/2020 as from 9.00am.
