ROY KANAI
4th November 1977 -15th November 2020
With great thanksgiving and humble acceptance of God’s will, we, the family and friends of Roy Kanai (UNEP) announce his passing after a long illness valiantly fought.
Roy was the beloved husband of the late Rita Wairimu Muchucha-Kanai and a truly devoted father to Sifa Ciiru Kanai, Sanaa Ng’endo Kanai and Ari Njoki Kanai. He was the son of the late Samuel Kinuthia Gathitu and the late Lily Wanjiru Kanai. Roy will be fondly remembered by his siblings Lizzie Wangui Gathitu (Virginia, USA), Anthony & Jedidah Wachira (Florida, USA), and Mercy Waruguru Gathitu. Roy was the son-in-law of Mr. & Mrs. Joe and Alice Muchucha and brother-in-law of Dennis Muchucha and Eric & Cess Nyingi Watene. He was an uncle to Tony, Maxwell and Gabriel Wachira (Florida, USA) and Rita Ng’endo Watene and a nephew to Lucy Muiruri (Seattle, USA) among others. He will be missed by his cousins and extended family.
Roy was a loyal friend and will be remembered by his friends as a gentleman, a man of laughter and charm. He will also be remembered by Ms. Beatrice Wangechi, who has devotedly served as nanny to his children, a caregiver and housekeeper. He was a dedicated and supportive colleague, having served for over 20 years at the UN Environment Programme, Nairobi.
There will be a funeral service for Roy at the All Saints Cathedral at 9am on Tuesday 24th November, 2020. Roy will thereafter be laid to rest at a private ceremony.
